Product overview
Review the gear pair, assembly conditions, drawing requirements, specification checks, and inspection points before requesting a quotation.
Custom spiral bevel gears feature curved, overlapping tooth lines that contact progressively along the tooth flank. This tooth geometry provides superior tooth contact ratio, high torque transmission density, and quiet operation at high rotational speeds compared to straight bevel gears. ZhongYi manufactures custom spiral bevel gear sets (Gleason or Klingelnberg tooth systems) from customer engineering drawings or master sample sets. Quotation and process engineering cover reduction ratio (1:1 up to 1:8), shaft angle (standard 90° or custom angles), spiral angle (typically 35°), pinion hand (RH/LH) paired with gear hand (LH/RH), mounting distances, tooth grinding or lapping, carburizing heat treatment (HRC 58-62), and contact pattern testing under nominal mounting distances.
Selection guidance
Use application and mating-component data to confirm geometry, materials, mounting details, and the acceptance plan.
Specify both the gear and pinion simultaneously. Document shaft rotation direction, transmitted torque, input speed, reduction ratio, shaft angle, spiral angle, and hand of helix. Because spiral teeth produce substantial axial thrust and radial separating forces, confirm that the gearbox bearings (such as tapered roller bearings) and housing rigidity are designed to maintain exact mounting distances under full operating load. State required tooth contact pattern position (toe, center, or biased for deflection compensation) and backlash range in the RFQ.

Quality Control & Inspection Matrix
Overseas procurement teams require verifiable technical data, not unsupported claims. Every production batch at ZhongYi is inspected against approved CAD blueprints and international standards (DIN, AGMA, ISO).
Component-Specific Quality Focus:
Spiral bevel gear pairs are manufactured, tested, lapped, and serialized as matched pairs. During testing, contact pattern position, contact area percentage, and backlash are verified at specified mounting distances. Paired gears must be installed and adjusted according to the etched mounting distance dimensions.
Validates 3D spatial GD&T, bore concentricity, center distance, and geometric tolerances down to ±0.002 mm.
Inspects involute tooth profile error (fα), lead crowning (fβ), pitch cumulative error (Fp), and radial runout (Fr).
Verifies surface hardness (58–62 HRC), core toughness, and effective carburized / nitrided case depth gradient.
100% chemical composition verification of alloy steel forgings (20CrMnTi, 42CrMo, 18CrNiMo7-6, Stainless, POM).
We maintain strict incoming material spectroscopy, in-process CNC tooth coordinate monitoring, and 100% final pre-shipment dimensional inspection. All custom gear batches are backed by our full manufacturing warranty.

Technical FAQ
Critical specifications are confirmed against final drawings before production.
Spiral bevel gears are cut and lapped or ground as a matched pair to achieve harmonious tooth meshing and controlled contact patterns. Replacing only one member will result in severe stress concentration, tooth noise, rapid wear, and potential tooth breakage.
Lapped gears are cost-effective and proven for agricultural machinery, general gearboxes, and off-highway axles. Ground spiral bevel gears provide higher tooth surface precision, tighter pitch accuracy, lower noise, and higher load ratings for high-speed industrial or EV reducers.
The choice depends on the direction of shaft rotation and whether the resulting axial thrust force should push the pinion into or pull it away from the cone center. Selecting the hand that pulls the pinion away helps prevent gear binding under bearing deflection.
