Manufacturing capability
Precision ground helical gear racks provide superior positioning accuracy, higher contact ratio, and substantially lower operating noise compared to straight-cut racks. The 19°31'42" helix angle increases tooth contact overlap, distributing driving torque across multiple teeth simultaneously. ZhongYi manufactures custom ground helical racks in DIN 6 (total pitch error < 0.035 mm / 1000 mm) and DIN 7 accuracy grades from high-strength alloy steels (such as 42CrMo, C45, or 20CrMnTi). Manufacturing scope includes 6-side precision grinding of bar stock, tooth flank CNC profile grinding, induction hardened or case-carburized tooth surfaces (HRC 50-60), and precision continuous butt-joint end machining (counterbored mounting holes and dowel pin reaming) for seamless continuous travel across long linear axes.
Product types & variants
The final product form is confirmed from the buyer drawing, mating component, assembly layout, operating conditions, and inspection requirements.
Premium precision ground racks with total pitch error within 0.035 mm per meter, engineered for high-precision CNC machine tools.
Cost-effective precision racks combining induction-hardened tooth flanks with profile grinding for heavy-duty industrial automation.
Racks with pitch-matched ground end faces designed to be bolted end-to-end for infinite travel lengths without pitch step deviation.
Precision ground helical pinions (with left- or right-hand helix) and splined/keyed bores matched to eliminate rack-pinion meshing errors.
Selection & Metallurgy guidance
When selecting a ground helical gear rack, confirm the module, hand of helix (standard 19°31'42" right hand meshes with a left-hand pinion), pitch error requirement (DIN 6 for machine tools, DIN 7 for general automation), cross-sectional dimensions (e.g. 29x29, 39x39, 49x49 mm), and bolt hole spacing. Provide overall axis stroke length so that standard 1000 mm or 2000 mm lengths can be configured with continuous end-machining for butt-joint installation. Ensure the mounting surface datum, guide rails, and pinion center distance are aligned to prevent edge loading on helical teeth.
Quality Control & Inspection Matrix
Overseas procurement teams require verifiable technical data, not unsupported claims. Every production batch at ZhongYi is inspected against approved CAD blueprints and international standards (DIN, AGMA, ISO).
Component-Specific Quality Focus:
Ground helical rack quality is verified using high-precision laser interferometers, CNC gear measuring centers, and granite surface plates. Inspection records document cumulative pitch error over total length, single pitch error (fpt), total radial runout, 6-face straightness and parallelism, tooth surface roughness (Ra 0.4 - 0.8 µm), and surface hardness profile. Test reports and material certificates are supplied with every production batch.
Validates 3D spatial GD&T, bore concentricity, center distance, and geometric tolerances down to ±0.002 mm.
Inspects involute tooth profile error (fα), lead crowning (fβ), pitch cumulative error (Fp), and radial runout (Fr).
Verifies surface hardness (58–62 HRC), core toughness, and effective carburized / nitrided case depth gradient.
100% chemical composition verification of alloy steel forgings (20CrMnTi, 42CrMo, 18CrNiMo7-6, Stainless, POM).
We maintain strict incoming material spectroscopy, in-process CNC tooth coordinate monitoring, and 100% final pre-shipment dimensional inspection. All custom gear batches are backed by our full manufacturing warranty.
Application fit
Match the gear type with real machinery conditions, operating environment, load, speed, and replacement requirements.
Discover how this gear category meets extreme torque, low backlash, quiet operation, and weather-resistance demands in primary industry sectors:
High-torque, impact-resistant gears, girth rings, and planetary drive sets engineered for excavators, cranes, drilling rigs, and heavy mining crushers.
Low-backlash, ultra-precise fine-pitch gears, ground helical racks, and planetary gearheads for robotics, AGV wheel drives, and high-speed motion axes.
High-torque bevel gears, spur gears, and splined drive shafts for tractors, harvesters, rotary tillers, and agricultural PTO gearboxes.
Technical FAQ
These answers support early engineering and procurement review. Final dimensions, materials, tolerances, and process requirements are confirmed against the approved drawing file.
Helical racks have angled teeth (19°31'42") providing a continuous contact ratio (> 2.0), which significantly reduces vibration, acoustic noise, and velocity ripple during high-speed acceleration (up to 2.5G) while delivering higher feed thrust.
The ends of our ground racks are CNC machined at half the pitch distance from the last tooth root. When two racks are positioned end-to-end with an alignment companion rack during installation, the pitch between adjacent teeth across the joint remains perfectly within DIN tolerance.
DIN 6 racks undergo 6-side finish grinding and complete CNC tooth flank grinding, offering cumulative pitch error ≤ 0.035 mm/m. DIN 7 racks feature induction-hardened teeth with precision grinding, offering pitch error ≤ 0.060 mm/m for general high-speed automation.
