Custom gear shafts combine tooth geometry with bearing seats, shoulders, splines, threads, keyways, oil features, and other shaft details in one component. Integrating the pinion and shaft can reduce joints and assembly stack-up, but it also makes datum control, heat-treatment distortion, straightness, and machining sequence more important. Selection guidance
A gear shaft drawing should define functional datums and the relationship between the gear teeth, bearing journals, shoulders, and drive features. Identify which surfaces are finished before or after heat treatment and where hardness is required or prohibited. Bearing fits, seal surfaces, threads, splines, keyways, center holes, lubrication features, and allowable runout should be stated. The RFQ should also include mating gears, bearing layout, transmitted torque, bending load, speed, duty cycle, and assembly method so manufacturing feasibility can be reviewed responsibly.

ZhongYi can review the drawing revision, material, blank route, machining sequence, heat-treatment zones, finish grinding, straightening allowance, and inspection plan. Depending on the approved requirements, checks may cover journal diameters, fit and surface finish, straightness, concentricity, gear runout, tooth measurements, hardness, thread gauges, spline data, and final dimensional reports. No fatigue life, fit class, or case-depth value is assumed when it is absent from the technical file.

The tooth form is manufactured directly on the shaft or pinion blank, removing a separate gear-to-shaft joint. This can improve compactness but increases the importance of bearing datums, heat-treatment distortion, straightness, and process sequence.
Provide bearing-seat diameters and fits, shoulder positions, overall length, threads, splines, keyways, center holes, seal surfaces, gear geometry, runout, material, heat treatment, surface finish, and quantity.
A sample can be reviewed, but bearing wear, bent shafts, tooth wear, and previous repairs may hide original dimensions. Assembly drawings, mating gears, bearings, and historic inspection data are valuable.
